무료 30시간이나 지속된 skype의 로그인 장애로 인해 Skype의 대안이 될 수 있는 VoIP 서비스가 무엇인지에 대한 관심이 커지고 있다. Skype 장애로 인해 강력한 경쟁자 중의 하나인 GizmoProject의 경우 매출이 4배나 증가하는 특수를 누렸고, 화상통화 전문 서비스인 SightSpeed의 경우 한 달에 4.95달러하는 Pro 서비스를 한달간 공짜로 이용할 수 있는 체험서비스를 내놓기도 했다.

이런 가운데 Mashable에서는 30시간이나 서비스가 중단된 Skype의 대안이 될 수 있는 30가지의 VoIP 서비스를 소개해서 눈길을 끌고 있는데, 내용을 살펴보면 아래와 같다.

• MOBIVOX - Make free calls to your Skype buddies using your mobile phone. Inform your Skype buddies and earn call credit for every registered user. No installation or software required. 이 서비스는 PC에 설치된 Skype와 연동해서 이루어지므로 Skype의 직접적인 대안이 될 수는 없는데, 자세한 내용은 여기를 참고하시기 바란다.
• Nimbuzz - Users can send free messages to their IM buddies (MSN, Gtalk, Skype, AIM, Yahoo) from their cell phones. Also allows you to talk with them for free.
• Raketu - Raketu users can make cheap international calls to users all over the world. Raketu comes with bundled social networking features like podcasting, mediaplayer, and news/information feeds. • Rebtel - Rebtel is a browser-based VoIP service that supports 37 countries. Registered users receive local phone numbers for their international friends. They can save the local number on their mobile phones for cheap international calling.

Phone Connecting Services : 본 서비스는 인터넷망에서 발신하는 것이 아니라 일반 전화기에서 이용할 수 있는 VoIP를 정리한 것이다.

• Earth Caller - Currently in beta, allows you to call any domestic phone number for free from their site.
• Gizmo Call - Excellent browser-based VoIP service allowing users to make as well as receive phone calls from users from anywhere in the world. Users get 5 minutes of free calling on registration.
